I believe this is the most
difficult part, since I'm not sure what people want to hear, so I'll
try to be brief and point out what I think is most interesting.
I graduated from Veterinary
School in 1991, moment in which for the first time in my life I could
achieve my greatest desire, to have a dog. This is how my love for Weimaraners
began: Zar came into my life.
For the following two years,
I worked in mixed equine and small animal practice. Yes, back then,
I had great passion for horses in addition to dogs. Due to several reasons
that I don't exactly recall now, I came to a point of disillusionment
with my career and decided to follow a different path. I moved to the
United States, taking Zar with me, where I pursued a Master in Health
Administration, and worked as a manager in a human hospital and an optometry
foundation. During these years, Kai came into my life and, unfortunately,
Zar left. But also, working in other sectors made me realize that my
true calling was Veterinary Medicine.
This is how in 1996 I came
back to Madrid, and from then on I have worked in small animal practice.
After a couple of years of doing surgery and conventional medicine,
I was still somehow frustrated with my work, for even though I had plenty
of successes in my treatments, I also had many failures, especially
in chronic skin cases.
I had known about the existence
of homeopathy for several years, so I decided to read everything I could
on this topic. The more I read, the more I became fascinated by this
new approach to understanding disease, and it made more sense to me
in addition to being more natural than the massive drug doses I was
continuously administering my patients. The height came when, in 1998,
Kai became sick, and after a long period of treating her with antibiotics
and NSAIDs, I wasn't able to cure her. The option left, from a conventional
point of view, was starting her on steroids, which very deep inside
I strongly hesitated to do due to the huge amount of side effects these
drugs have. At the same time, around February of 1999, a patient which
I had on steroids became pregnant, so we had to suspend the treatment,
and her skin problem became worse. I decided to treat my bitch, Kai,
and this patient with homeopathy, and eventually, both of them healed.
When the puppies of this patient were born, I kept one, little Luna,
a fine memory of my first homeopathic case.
Since then, I decided to
pursue an education in this therapeutic modality, started a two-year
program, and to treat my patients with homeopathy.
Finally, I would just mention
briefly some other aspects of interest in my life, such as my language
skills. I have always found other languages fascinating and pretty useful.
In addition to being bilingual Spanish - English, I mange to understand
and speak German and French.
