This is a list of books I recommended on holistic methods for dogs. By purchasing from here you help Weimaraner Rescue, so please buy directly from these links, as I don't get credit for what you buy from Amazon's homepage. Thank you.
I understand this list of books is long, but I've tried to include as many different modalities as possible and books of different levels to suit different needs. Please note that some books might not be strictly directed to animals, but I recommend them as very interesting reading for anyone interested in a healthy life and the same principles may apply to our dogs. Also, please note that some of my recommendations are not strictly about holistic methods, but other topics that I deem fundamental to a sound dog. If you're new to this and don't know where to start, please join the Holistic Weimaraner Mailing List, we'll be glad to answer your needs. I have marked with those books that I personally highly recommend and I find a MUST HAVE for the beginner as well as the more advanced - it may or may not agree with amazon's rating, nor does it mean that I do not recommend the rest (if this were the case, they wouldn't be here), it's simply a reference for a starting point. I have also included recommendations from other people on the list, and a list rating on some of the books. Those that people on the list already have read, are rated from 1 (extremely useless) to 5 (extremely useful/excellent). Dolores Sánchez-Peñalver

Cancer (The Essential Guide to Natural Pet Care) by Cal Orey.

Book Description
This book lays out a plan to prevent cancer or minimize the ravaging effects of this often-fatal disease through diet and natural remedies. It also provides an overview of holistic veterinary treatments that best fight cancer.

The author, COrey39184@aol.com , June 14, 1999
A must-read for all health-conscious pet owners. I am especially proud of this book for a variety of reasons. First, I learned myself during the research that cancer in pets and people is more common than we think. Second, I learned that we can lower the risk and even prevent this deadly disease. I want to show people that they can help their pets live healthier and longer lives even if they fall victim to cancer.

Why Is Cancer Killing Our Pets?: How You Can Protect and Treat Your Animal Companion by Deborah Straw, Gary Kowalski (Foreword) .

From Publishers Weekly
In the U.S., cancer is the second leading cause of death in humans but the number one killer of pets, primarily cats and dogs. After losing four pets to four different forms of cancer, longtime journalist and animal lover Deborah Straw decided to investigate the matter further. The result of her considerable and careful research is Why Is Cancer Killing Our Pets?: How You Can Protect and Treat Your Animal Companion. Without endorsing any particular form of care, but stressing the value of expert intervention, Straw discusses cancer prevention, traditional and alternative cancer treatments and how to cope with the loss of a pet to this relentless disease.
