FLATULENCE
Even though this condition might not sound like a first-aid situation, I believe that the indicated remedies might be of use in case of acute gastric dilation ("bloat"), when administered as soon as possible on your way to your emergency veterinarian. They can also be used in a preventative way on dogs with a marked tendency to bloat with gas and risk of gastric dilation and or torsion.
Four main remedies:
ARGENTUM NITRICUM
The most flatulent. The patient loves sweets which bloat him. Bloating ameliorates with belching. Does not tolerate heat. Anxiety and rushing.
Preventive: administer in 30c potency, 3 granules a 15 minutes prior to feeding.
CARBO VEGETABILIS
Remedy of essentially supra-umbilical flatulence (anterior part of the abdomen in the dog.) Belching, satiety and heaviness sensation, somnolence. The situation aggravates by lying down, with heat, with ingestion of milk and/or fatty foods. Everything begins a half hour after the meals. Slow digestion that makes food ferment reaching a putrefaction process. Belching alleviates the tension.
Preventive: administer in 30c potency, 3 granules a 15 minutes prior to feeding.
LYCOPODIUM CLAVATUM
Essentially sub-umbilical flatulence (posterior part of the abdomen). Abdominal bloating while eating, satiety sensation on the first bites, somnolence. Belching does not ameliorate the situation. Craving for sweets, onions and oysters which disagree with the patient. Equally, the dyspepsia can be due to ingestion of legumes, starch-rich, floury foods... Aggravation between 4 and 8 pm. Amelioration with warm drinks. Seasonal periodicity.
Administer in 30c potency, 3 granules daily during 7 days.
NUX MOSCHATA
Extreme flatulence: everything the patient eats seems to transform into gas. Hiccups, dyspnea, mouth dryness, palpitations. Very somnolent individuals.
Administer in 6c, 3 granules twice daily.
