Adverse effects from Vaccines in Dogs

In April 2001, I decided to compile some statistics of what types of vaccine damage and non-desired effects had been observed in dogs, with what vaccines and at what ages. I was also interested in knowing what percentage of conventional veterinarians in comparison with holistic veterinarians seem to acknowledge these problems.

The survey sample were a total of 83 dogs who had had at least a negative consecuence at some point in their lives from the generalized vaccination protocol.

The age at which these dogs had negative effects was: 8% at 2 months, 19% at 3 months, 17% at 4 months, 5% at 5 months, 10% between 6 and 9 months, 5% between 9 months and one year, 9% between one and two years, and the 27% left at ages over two years.

The time after the vaccine when these negative effects were seen or started to being observed was: 25% after some hours, 31% after several days, 22% after several weeks and the other 22% after several months.

The vaccines to which these dogs reacted or from which they had negative effects were:

Vaccine
Percentage (%)
Type of Vaccination
Percentage (%)
Distemper
21
Parvovirus
25
First vaccination
46
Rabies
54
Leptospirosis
10
Booster
54
Bordetella
10
Lyme Disease
4
Multiple
32

The type or types of negative effects observed were:

Type of effect
Percentage (%)
CNS affection like encephalitis, seizures, etc.
10
Behavior modification like aggression, fears, etc.
32
Acute anaphylactic reaction
12
A chronic immune-mediated disease (allergic dermatitis, IBS, hypothyroidism, diabetes, etc.)
33
Tumors
20
Other types (HOD, panosteitis, the disease it was supposed to prevent, etc.
33

The impact of such negative effects were transitory in 23% of these dogs, while in 77% of them they were severe and/or permanent and needed treatment.

In addition, from these dogs, 27% contracted at some point in their lifes at least one of the diseases against which they had previously been vaccinated.

From all these cases, only 27% were diagnosed by conventional veterinarians, while 73% were diagnosed by holistic veterinarians - 49% by veterinary homeopaths and 24% by veterinarians practicing other alternative modalities.
