| The gun metal charcoal blue color of the Blue Weimaraner is distinctive and beautiful, but it is a disqualifying fault in the American standard. The first recognized Blue Weimaraner was Casar von Gaiburg (Tell), an import to the U.S. from Germany. Though some argue that Tell was a cross-bred dog, others believe that the blue coat was always around but confused with the mouse grey color. Still others believe that Tell's coat color was caused by a genetic mutation. Whatever the origin, the Blue Weimaraner is an AKC recognized pure-bred Weimaraner. Tell is behind some of the most well-known kennel names in the U.S. on which many others are based. Go back far enough, and you'll find that many grey dogs will show blue in its pedigree. | ![]() Indy and Steve Graham's Baika vom Heidenbruch (Baika). |
