Today Dustin had a vet check.  He weighs 42.2 lbs!  Weight gain is slow, but I can tell he is gaining muscle as he has some now!  His nails were extremely long, but until now his skin was so fragile, we didn't attempt to trim them before.  Today he had them trimmed, he did fight a bit, so the techs layed him on the exam table. One layed across him and held him while the other trimmed his talons!  The whole time, his tail beating on the stainless table sounded like a drum roll.  This boy is just one happy guy.  He has an amazing spirit.

Dustin is currently getting a good quality food and gets Seacure (thanks propernutrition.com), Natures Farmacy's Dogzymes  (thanks to NF and Kat Berard)- probiotics and digestive enzymes, Missing Link and a pancreatic enzyme supplement!  Whew, making up his meals takes a little while and he dances the whole time anxiously awaiting his food.

His face is getting some little spikey hairs, but they are coming in.  His feet are still red and have a few bumps on them, but hopefully they will heal soon.

Dustin is an awesome boy and will make someone a wonderful friend when he is healthy and ready to be put up for adoption.  But if you are looking for a young handsome boy and just can't wait for Dustin, you might check out Yankee on our adoptions page.  He is a young male, very handsome, very smart, but energetic!  He is crate trained and house trained and is waiting for his very own family.  Here's a picture of him:

Yankee is ready for his new home. He is being fostered in the Houston area.  If you are interested in meeting Yankee, please contact WRNT at bark@weimrescuetexas.org  Our policy does require that you fill out an application before meeting our dogs.

If you are looking for a sweet beautiful girl that absolutely adores children, Ginger may be for you!  At our Meet and Greet at Petsmart, she loved attention from children and would sit for them no matter how quietly they asked her to.  Here she is with one of her new friends.  Ginger is also being fostered in the Houston area.  We have many wonderful weims looking for homes.  Please click on the available dogs link to view them and read a little about them.

Dustin will be available for adoption as soon as he is all healed.  This will probaby be a few more months.  We have had interest in adopting him and he is excited and doing his best to get better!

From Dustin:

OH, fostered Mom says to check out Ebay for some more fun stuff to help WRNT help me and de udder weims.  They will be putting up more cool stuff this week!!  Look at this cool picture Miss Debi made for me!  I can't wait til I'ms all hairy agains and I can go ons a date with a sweet, weimy girl just like the luckiest guy in this painting.  Maybe that sweet spice girl, Ginger will go out with me.!!

Luvs ya,

Dustin

About the Artist:

Dustin was rescued from a home where he was being neglected.  He was taken to a no-kill shelter and a volunteer at the shelter got on the internet and started spreading the word that this baby needed help and fast!  We agreed to take Dustin into our organization, and with the help of several wonderful people, Dustin has made it to Houston.

This is Dustin right after he was picked up about the first of August.  He is approximately 8  months old and is extremely emaciated. His weight should be in the 50 lb range, at this point, he only weighs 28 lbs.
