Dustin

Hello everyone.  No updated pictures, but I thought I would pop in and let you all know, Dustin is amazing and he has earned his BGD (bad gray dog) title!

Dustin is a very calm, well behaved 9 month old weim puppy.  I am amazed that he is trustworthy out of the crate at this young age.  He is left out for about 4 or 5 hours with our other two weims during the day and he has not been destructive at all.  As a matter of fact, the only incident we have had was when I was right here!

I have a beautiful black braided leather leash, I have been using it with Dustin since he got here.  He loves that leash.  I guess I have been so busy and so distracted lately that he wanted to go for a walk.  Everyday I would find the leash pulled down and laying in the middle of the living room floor.  Well, the other day, I looked over and he was chewing it!  He did some damage, but instead of being mad, I was in some weird way very proud of him.  I guess you have to be a weim owner to understand what I mean.  This boy is just too calm and well behaved for his age and all he has been through.  Now he is a real weim!  He has earned BGD points!  I don't think he meant to  destroy the leash, I think he just wanted to go for a walk so badly that he was playing with it and well one thing led to another...  Silly, loving boy.

Thanks to Chris C with Michigan Weim Rescue and several others, we have finally started getting a firm stool.  Sweet potatoes!  Yep, seems the fiber in sweet potatoes helps firm up the stool.  He has been very happy and appeared to be healing well,  but still had a loose stool.  I started him on mashed sweet potatoes (nothing added) and within two days, he had his first firm stools!  And, he, Stoli and Queso think they are treats so it is easy to give to him.  Of course, Stoli and Queso get some too.  He gets approximately 3 tablespoons twice a day.   I don't think he will need them forever, but just for a while until his body is completely caught up from his ordeal.

I hope to get new pictures this weekend.  We are in the process of buying a house and it seems that takes a lot of time and we haven't even packed a box yet!  So, please be patient with us and please know we appreciate the love and support from everyone.  Remember, we at WRNT could not do this without your support!

We still have some wonderful items that were donated to auction on ebay.  I just haven't listed them yet.  Hope to get that done this weekend too.

Fall is here, we had a nice, dry, cool breeze yesterday.  It was wonderful - remember we are in SE Texas and it is hot and humid here most of the time!  Didn't last long, but we cherished every moment!  Speaking of fall, WRNT is participating in two fun family/dog fall events.  In the Dallas area, some WRNT volunteers have organized Mystics, Mutts and Moonpies.  It is a fun day of food, music, doggy games with lots of rescue groups there as well as vendors with great doggy and non-dog related items.  Rally To Rescue, Petsmart, VCA vet hospitals, Doctors Hospital (for people!) and many other wonderful organizations are sponsoring this event.  It is sure to be a blast.  They are even having a national frisbee dog competition at the event.  For more info, go to www.weim.net/stoli/mysticmutts.htm

October 29th in the Houston area, we are participating in Howl O Wine.  A fun doggy day at a real vineyard!  Haak Vineyard is located in Santa Fe, TX and is worth the drive from Houston.  There will be wine tasting, great food, doggy events, rescue groups, music and costume contests!  Come out and support Weimaraner Rescue!  For more info and to buy tickets, go to www.animalcoalitionoftexas.org  Be sure to mention that you are supporting WRNT when you buy your ticket, it does help money go directly to our group!  Dustin is excited about Howl O Wine and is doing his best to get all better so that he can attend.  It looks like he will be able to, now we just have to figure out a costume for him! If you have any suggestions, please put them in his guestbook!

Thanks again for all your support.
