Lead Poisoning

Clinical Signs

Most often lead poisoning occurs after a long, steady history of ingestion (or inhalation in rarer cases). Clinical signs include vomiting, constipation or diarrhea, abdominal pain, pale gums, staggering, seizures, and unusual behavior, including blindness, deafness and dementia.

Treatment:

Discovery and removal of the source of lead is very important. Repeated treatment of calcium-EDTA and BAL can help remove the lead from the body. Sedatives to control neurologic signs and medications to control swelling of the brain are also needed.

Get the dog to a Veterinarian immediately.
